Chaste Love Covenant

I, the undersigned, for the love of Jesus Christ, and for the sake of preparing for a lifelong Christian marriage based on chaste love, recognize that chastity fosters true love. And so, in order to live according to the virtue of chastity, I make the following commitment:

 1. I will practice only friendship dating until I am at least 21 years old. This friendship dating consists of the following behavior with members of the opposite sex:

a) When we get to know each other, there’ll be lots of warm, chaste hugs, but no kissing, no touching sensitive areas, no holding hands, no sex.

b) We say things like “You’re a great friend,” or “You’re my best friend.”

c) Even if we begin to have strong feelings for each other, we won’t say, “I love you,” or “I’m in love with you,” or “I want to marry you,” realizing that there’s a difference between honesty and telling all that’s on you mind, and that some feelings are best not expressed verbally.

d) We go out no more than once or twice a week, mostly in groups.

e) We talk on the phone no more than three times a week.

f) We will make it clear when we want to end this friendship or lower its intensity. We’ll be honest with each other.

g) I will pray at least five minutes a day for the grace to keep this commitment.

2. After I turn 21 when I go out with someone, I will begin with friendship dating for a time (perhaps one to three months), until we decide if a courtship is worthwhile. If so, I will pursue the following behavior in courtship:

h) I will date only one person once we have decided on courtship.

i) I will neither have sex nor sexual foreplay, nor any activity which intentionally arouses either party.

j) I will share only affection, which consists of chaste hugs, holding hands, kissing hands, gentle touches on the face or arm, and the gentlest, sweetest goodnight kiss or two, at the end of the evening.

k) I will try to honor my partner at all times.

l) I realize that this will require a good prayer life, so I will pray ten or fifteen minutes a day and make every effort to pray with my courtship partner and worship together.
